Emmas update: Audiology was a success! Emma is not showing any significant hearing loss! They are going to recheck in 3 months and very encouraged that Emma spoke up about what she feels is a decrease. They stated that sometimes people can feel the loss before the machine so to keep reporting any significant problems. They are also going to look into how we can get customized ear plugs for Emma. We are hoping that her insurance will cover these due to chemotherapy treatment, if not then we will figure out a way to pay for them. The ear plugs are vital for keeping her hearing safe for as long as possible. I must say it was scaring to hear Emma talking about hearing aids. It breaks my heart that she has worked so hard to beat cancer but still has so many medical huddles to jump over of the rest of her life. Now for the school meeting.....it went very well. They have approved a 504 for Emma which is all I wanted. The biggest problem is that her attendance will still be monitored by the county and we must provide doctors notes for every absence. Luckily her Physical Therapist is awesome and has been able to move her appointments to outside of school time. All of Emmas teachers where very encouraging and understanding. The 504 will allow her to have double time for makeup work, leave class 5 minutes early when her leg is swollen or bothering her to avoid the rush to class (concerned about her getting knocked over), allow her to have snacks if she is not feeling well and also extra time on test if she feels she needs it. Her teachers gave us a very clear understanding that once Emma gets caught up on her work she will have drastic improvements of her grades. Now to get her on a very tight school schedule which unfortunately means very little social activities and very late nights but it will be worth it when she gets into College. Her appointments this week are as follows: Dermatologist tomorrow (Emma has an area on her face that will not heal along with some spots on her legs) Kidney doctor on Wednesday to try and understand why she has to continue the high does of magnesium Physical Therapy on Wed and Thurs. Pediatrician on Thursday for another issue regarding a sore that will not heal. So we are asking for positive answers for all doctors appointments this week and a very big thank you to my parents who will be taking Emma to all of these appointment. (Me, mom, has to be out of town for work this week). I am going to post cruise pictures shortly..... Again thank you to everyone for the encouraging words, the prayers and all the love and support.
