Employee Tip of the Week (from Crystal) Warm weather increases the risk of certain diseases and parasites. Now is a good time to make sure your pets are up to date on: 1) Heartworm preventive- Mosquitos love the warm weather and therefore heartworm disease is mainly spread in spring/summer. 2) Leptospirosis- This bacteria lives in warm water, lakes, rivers, even backyard puddles. It can cause serious injury to the liver and kidneys. Dogs need to be vaccinated against lepto every year. 3) Parasites- Fleas and ticks are super active during the spring. We have already had one fatal case of bobcat fever. Please ask us which flea/tick controls are safest and work the best.
