Incumbent will receive instructions on operations, procedures, practices and work performed on all equipment used on the unit. Working in the field, instructed on the full range of tasks involved in the overhaul, maintenance, modification, and major repair of gasoline and diesel powered heavy duty mobile industrial equipment, vehicles and floating plant. TRAVEL REQUIRED: 75% or Greater Business Travel (TDY) may be up to 80% RELOCATION AUTHORIZED: No KEY REQUIREMENT: May be required to be on travel consecutively for up to 3 months at a time. Pre-employment physical is required and annually thereafter. This is an inclement weather position. DUTIES: As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer, you will be responsible for the following: Work with journeyman mechanic on major repairs to engineer equipment as represented by dismantling and replacing parts or components such as shafts, structural members and supports, gears, Pistons and rings, bearings, sheaves, clutches brakes axles and electrical systems. Grinds valves, replaces switches, Points, condensers, coils, gaskets, bearings and spark plugs; cleans motors; adjust carburetors; and removes heads from engines. Uses mechanic tools, heavy bars, Pipe wrenches, drills, saws rules, etc. Dismantles, repairs, and replaces parts or components of equipment. Assist journeyman mechanic in installing gears, sheaves, valves, rings, rods, bearings, clutches, brakes, axles, shafts, etc. on engineer equipment associated with revetment operations. Greases engineer equipment and changes oil in motors; replaces batteries on engineer equipment; splices and changes winch cables on associated engineer equipment; and changes tires on heavy trucks and construction type equipment. Observe safety precautions and work in a safe manner to prevent injury to self, other workmen and prevent property damage. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience in the following: Assisting with the repair, maintenance, general servicing, overhaul and modification of floating plant, heavy mobile equipment, automotive equipment, and complex equipment such as cranes, trucks, gas and diesel-powered tractors, draglines, compressors and marine engines. Physical effort: The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Work is sometimes performed on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Does strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools. Working Conditions: The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Work is sometimes performed on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions.
