Empty I no longer hear the foot fall of little feet dancing for my attention, Little fingers no longer wrap my hair into knots, Nor stroke my cheek as a soft whisper Or fold themselves in mine. She was gone, colour fades Crayons left on the kitchen table lay undisturbed. Her soft toys unloved, books open on the floor Her little chair still pushed out as she left She was candyfloss and balloons My heart, breath stealer, my core. Little fingerprints like lacewings rest I clean around them , so not to wipe her away I fell asleep for months only to the sound of her music box It held my memories in soft tones Melody filled my heart and fuels my pain As I hold her blanket close and weep My empty arms, my pain shimmers around me. Balanced by memories of her laughter A little hand in mine, eyes that only see love Unquestioned trust My diluted heart hermitages love Shirley Cawte
