En route from Dakar to BJL with my BNC mate Raffie Diab.... in a writing mood. Wanna share some wisdom or should i say insights. Love going to Dakar to get a reboot and a little jolt of inspiration. Dakar is not perfect dont get me wrong and life is hard for many. Everyone is hustling you on the street, at the airport, taxi hotel etc After all my luggage got stolen en plein air at the airport ! The hustling mentality just shows that the senegalese people are hungry for success, driven to eke a living and very innovative. You drive to ville someone will help you find parking space, clean your car and tell you gran loma joh bahna ! Chez nous ( jollof) the dude will watch you struggle to park and then tell you bro amulor Arch for the older generation Mo Goswell Arch means D100 the symbol on the D100 note. In Dakar, you get complimented for driving a nice car..eh Gambien sa auto bi refet na ! in jollof you shun attention to avoid making people uncomfortable. Fast forward, in Senegal, success and prosperity is celebrated and emulated. In Gambia, we bring down or look forward to the demise of successful or people seen as prosperous. Everyday, people look forward to reading negative news as a daily pass time and are happy to pass it around. With social media info spreads like wild fire. Thanks Zuckerberg for inventing this tool for humanity ! How often do we spread positive news i.e Dew got an international job or won a huge contract ! rarely or seldom. In fact we are more likely to cast negative aspersions ! I often hear people say about successful or prosperous folks Ki da fa muna bluff or you share a grand idea with some - Yow Da nga Over Ambitious ! I am in a novice in English Language but never heard of Over Ambitious in other place on the planet except Planet Jollof Latirr Carr please help !. When did we degenerate to this sadistic mind frame. Why do we prefer to see a half empty glass. My old man told me to me that back in the day when they walked in the streets of Banjul as university graduates, they were the pride of their communities, everyones son Gambia today, the empty barrels make the most noise. The truly learned, educated, enlightened and exposed now take a back seat. The reason is the pull him down syndrome aptly called PHD ! Crab mentality .....just try it for real no crab will leave the bucket .Each pulls the other down ! mentality. Politics aside, Gambia belongs all of us. We are all entitled to have divergent political, ideological or religious views. Chez nous we are so polarised about every thing under the sky. You are either on this side or that side. Worst, we cannot have a healthy discourse without hurling insults or denigrating each other. Gambia belongs to all of us and we should celebrate the success of Gambians and aspire for success. Just my piece, my view, my observation and my two bututs. Expose my typos and grammatical errors !! typing in the car en route to my beloved country !! I am not as learned as my brother and childhood buddy Nyang Njie. From the James Senegal boy !! WA JAMESSENEGAL METHODIST PRIMARY SCHOOL CLUB Recta Sapere SAINTS BOY !! Tijan Masanneh Ceesay
