Third-party green certification can help address questions about whether a certain product meets acceptable standards for lifecycle and sustainability. Certified products meet an established set of guidelines and criteria, and define the degree of separation between the certifier and the manufacturer whose product is being certified. A certification is most credible when an independent third party with no ties or agenda conducts product testing and awards the certification. Along with 14 other commercial building product manufacturers dedicated to environmental stewardship, Eastman Chemical Company has been recognized this year by EcoSpecifier Global for its EnerLogic® 35 window film series. EnerLogic 35 low-e window film received EcoSpecifier Global’s GreenTag certification, a third-party green product certification based on lifecycle assessment. Submitted for GreenTag certification by MEP Films in Australia, Eastman’s exclusive EnerLogic distributor in that country, EnerLogic 35 was certified at the LCARate Gold Plus level. “Without significantly reducing the amount of daylight entering a commercial building, this low-e window film reduces solar heat gain and provides year-round thermal efficiency for existing windows in both warm and cool climates,” says Jeremy Verstraete, global business manager for Eastman Chemical Company. This is the first and only window film that has, to date, been granted GreenTag Gold Plus certification. The low-e window film was rated by EcoSpecifier Global on several factors, including: Impact on building operating costs Personal and ecosystem health Local and global species Greenhouse gas emissions Corporate responsibility Each GreenTag-rated product receives a Product Eco-Scorecard that reveals the product’s lifecycle assessment and eco-point ratings so facilities professionals can make an easy evaluation based on what’s most important for their commercial buildings, whether it’s improving tenant/occupant health, lowering energy costs, or reducing carbon footprints. Awarded in Australia, GreenTag certification is recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED green building rating system and several other environmental rating systems around the world, including BREEAM and the German Sustainable Building Council.
