Energy is a vital part of the future of West Virginia and gas exploration is a big part of our energy portfolio. I have supported our natural gas industry for years, helped to promote its use and been a part of the first natural gas dispensaries for vehicles. I was recently invited by Consol Energy to tour one of its Lewis County sites, and it was truly amazing. Clean and efficiently run, with technology and facilities that were unparalleled. We must embrace our natural gas industry. Of course, that does not mean we turn a blind eye to our environment or safety. We must regulate companies that dont follow the rules, but reward the ones that do. The pad that we toured had worked from inception without an injury, which is something every worker was proud of - and a lot of those workers were West Virginians. If elected Senator for the 12th District, I will make the development of our energy portfolio a priority - just as I have in the past. I will work with Legislators to make a state policy on energy a priority - not only to encourage safe development - but to find ways to retain PERMANENT VALUE from our natural resources and create permanent good paying jobs for our West Virginia working families- jobs that will sustain us for well past the exploration boon that we are enjoying.
