It is about religious accommodation, and what can happen when a government gives in , in the name of religious freedom. I was born and raised in Montreal but i may as well have been born on another planet. I was raised in a home where religion dictated my everyday life. As a woman i was lucky to receive a full secular high school education however my brothers are not so lucky. Hassidic Rabbis preach that nothing should distract the men from their Torah study, and it seems that the government is ok with turning a blind eye in the name of religious freedom. These boys will grow up one day , have families of their own and will need to provide for them. Yet, without any proper formal secular education they lack the basic skills needed to function in everyday society. Proper writing , math or even computer skills. Having been witness to these injustices is reason enough for me to take a stand. We live in such a multicultural society , with such a wide array of strong beliefs . I strongly believe that some form of a charter that will curb religious accommodations is necessary. So that this type of scenario does not go ignored.» Rivka Katz
