English Learning for Seniors Our society has been rapidly - TopicsExpress

English Learning for Seniors Our society has been rapidly heading toward the aging of population, in which about 25% of the total is already more than 64 years old, including me, according to this year’s statistics. Most of our generation willingly admit that the recent seniors, meaning retirees in this case, are physically and mentally much younger than the same age in the past; therefore, we are still apt to show an interest in various fields, one of which is eagerness for study of a foreign language, English in my case, as also inspired by the latest international finding that bilingualism encourages senility-prevention. Frankly, English learning was one of thorns through entire period of my school days and full-time career, probably because compulsorily necessitated. Actually, I could feel having practically moderate command of English in day-to-day business, thanks to my long involvement in the study and utilization; however, my English ability related to other daily life than my own career still needs great improvement. As seems to be same for many other seniors, English learning has been getting more interesting for me since retirement from full-time career, freed from work-related restraints, and can be recently proceeded comfortably and freely, sometimes even over liquor, on subjects of study increasingly expanded, including Major League Baseball and current international topics, by means of reading such materials at random, as Time, U.S. paperbacks and NHK textbooks. In this connection, I firmly believe SRE to be one of the most effective learning methods. One of my modest goals through continuous English study is to be of some assistance in such activities of international exchange, as participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic as a volunteer interpreter.
