Enhancing Maleny I’m excited to share an update on some fantastic projects and initiatives taking place in and around our lovely Maleny that will enhance this beautiful region while still retaining its unique qualities and culture. The design concepts for the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve Building Renewal and associated consultation outcomes will be presented to Council at the December 2014 meeting where the future direction for the project will be set. The volunteers and Friends are very excited about the future of the Reserve and the expanded educational opportunities the upgrade will bring forth. Also at the Reserve, the refurbishment of the open space park is scheduled to commence early next year. Works will include the replacement of the paved and seating areas running around the perimeter of the landscaped space and provision of disable vehicle access to the BBQ area and amenities. This project will renew the park providing improved facilities for the community to enjoy this iconic and much loved natural treasure. The tender has closed on the construction contract for the new amenities building in the Maleny Community Precinct. We anticipate building to start early next year. Meanwhile, works on the Interpretive Heritage Trail in the Precinct has now commenced and the completed trail is anticipated to be ready to enjoy by late March. The beautiful new Maleny timber boardwalk project is progressing on schedule with works expected to be wrapped up in time for Christmas. The Reynolds Boardwalk circuit is also progressing well with works to start imminently. Commencement of the Green Army project at the Precinct will see the continuation of conservations efforts along the Obi Obi Creek. I look forward to seeing these many projects continue to develop and or come to fruition soon.
