Enjoyed my day off today exploring the Atherton tablelands. Beautiful weather - sunny and warm. As I headed out the door I heard a radio announcement warning people snakes were on the move. YIKES! I hate snakes. Sure enough, not 2 kms down the road a black snake on the road. Dead, thank god. But it still took me a few minutes to work up the courage to ride round it (you know in case it was faking and hurled itself on me as I rode past!). I went as far over on the other side of the road as I could, feet and legs up in the air. Silly yes...but I HATE snakes. Id pulled up to take a photo when I noticed a bloke riding along on a horse. mr Les pulled up on diamond, for a chat. Lovely old farmer who has lived in the area 20years. He shared lots of great stories including the one about him riding over a big angry brown snake on his trail bike while mustering cattle. He had his feet up over the handle bars he reckoned. mmmmm Im not so silly after all. Though I couldnt find my glove when it came time to leave. Thats because it was on my hand!!! I thought mr les was going to fall off diamond laughing. Would you like me to get down off here and start that bike for you my dear he chuckled! He roared with laughter again when I told him I was a blonde under the helmet!! Past by a very keen fisherman place by the looks of his mail box and front fence. Very quirky. Made my way over to the Nerada tea plantation and enjoyed a delicious lunch and a pot of tea! Rode across towards Atherton and stopped off at Gallo Dairyland - cheese and chocolate factory built on a working dairy. You can smell its authenticity hehehe. I sampled yummy delights and spoke with miss ann and linda before heading out the back to the dairy for the twice daily milking session. Love the riding up here - lots of country lanes meandering through lush green country side. Gods country!
