Enough with this emotional blackmail that goes thus: why would doctors continue their strike when this country is facing the Ebola crisis?. Firstly, it is ONLY the drs in the residency training that are on strike not all drs. For the uninformed, medicine is a specialized practice, a surgeon will not operate on Ebola, an obstetrician will not do an emergency Cesarean section to deliver a woman of Ebola. There are specialists in infectious disease control/ public health experts responsible for this. It is also under the jurisdiction of the State ministry of health/ Federal ministry of health. Thus the vast number of residents cant help you because Ebola isnt their area of expertise but even at that we still have experts in infectious disease control who are putting in their best to help as it were. Moreover, Ebola in Nigeria is a contained infection limited to Lagos initially, with a threat of spread to Enugu which has been controlled as well. Thus if there is a strike in every other state it has little or nothing to do with Ebola presently because a surgical resident in Borno really has no business with Ebola. So what exactly do you want him to do and why would you refer to him as wicked and insensitive? Why dont you also walk up to an army officer ion your state and tell him hes useless in your state that he should go to Chibok and fight? So why label all Nigerian drs bad cos even if they were not on strike, it isnt Ebola that 90% of them would be treating? However, this does not stop other drs from contributing their quota in the form of creating awareness and advocacy campaigns on social media and in the communities at the grass-root level etc and I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE MY COLLEAGUES TO EMBARK ON SUCH PROJECTS. NOTE HOWEVER: It is NOT WISE for doctors who do not have the specialized training for infectious disease control to go anywhere near an Ebola case otherwise, theyll suffer the same fate as the infected Dr and Nurse in Lagos and there will be loss of containment. Asking such doctors to join in the care of ebola patients is just like asking a pediatrician to do a Cesarean section on your wife because you are concerned about the baby without realizing hes is not trained to cut open your wife. Its a lose-lose situation So please dear Nigerians, think. . . and quit the sentimental gimmickry #enogoevenworksef #enomakesense finally please if you find a typo, please use tipex and a black pen to correct it
