Based on the collective picture of America painted on these laptopsmartphone screens every day, insistently and incessantly, no one in their right mind would ever want to live in the US of A...unless they took a three-week backroad road trip through a dozen Northern and Southern states, lingering in cafes and coffee shops and markets and bakeries and bars and shrimpshops in dozens of cities, towns, villages and crossroads, from Columbia, Pa., to Thurmont, MD; from Fayetteville, TN, to Greensboro, AL; from Mobile to Savannah...and everywhere in between...where, despite what youre hearing every day, Americas people are, in fact, in accord, and readily insist, in speech and action, to you, fellow traveler, entering their daily lives: Our idealistic ideal -- one people, one land, one ideology -- is not only still alive; its heartbeat is strong and smiling.
