“Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving” Psalm 100 “Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth! Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation” Psalm 100 (NLT). Here is the recipe for joyful living: Thank God for everything, come into His presence with a song on your lips, and praise His name continuously. Notice that the Psalmist doesn’t just say that we should worship God, he also tells us how and why we should worship God. Here’s how he says we should worship: Shout and sing with joy; worship with gladness; acknowledge that God is God; enter His gates with thanksgiving; and give thanks and praise to His name. Then the Psalmist tells us why we should celebrate: Because God made us, and we are His people; He is good; His unfailing love and faithfulness continues forever. It’s important to note that each of these reasons speak to Who God is and to the relationship we have with Him; we are His creations, but He didn’t just create us and leave us here all alone; He took us into His fold and made us His people. I love the way the author wraps up this beautiful psalm: “For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” What a beautiful list of attributes: God is good, faithful, and filled with unfailing love. No wonder my tongue can’t stop thanking Him; no wonder my lips can’t stop singing praises to His holy name.
