Entrance to El Nido, the mansion built in 1925 by Andres Luna de San Pedro for Eugene Arthur Perkins, an eminent American lawyer from the firm, De Witt Perkins and Ponce Enrile. El Nido was the first prize winnerof the 1925 House Beautiful contest and was said to be the most modern house in Manila. After the war, it housed the Japanese Embassy, circa 1960. This beautiful house became the focus of the separation case between Perkins and his wife, Idonah Slade Perkins and was abandoned after Perkins death. It was purchased by a businessman who later tore it down to make way for the L & S Building at 1515 Roxas Blvd., Manila designed by Architect Leandro V. Locsin and home to various embassies and the PAL Ticketing Office in the 1960s and early 1970s.
