Enya..:) officially Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin (born May 17, 1961, 49 yo), is an Irish singer. She is the youngest child in her family. She’s from little a town called Dore (irish: Dobhar) in the northwest of the Republic of Ireland. Musicality was passed on to her from her parents. Before settling down, her parents played in a family dance band. Nowadays, her dad is a bar owner and used to be a music teacher in the local school. The first band where Enya was, was Clannad. An Clan As Dobhar was formed in 1968. In 1973 they changed their name to Clannad. It performed traditional Irish music and after they’d recruited sister Maire Brennan they’d gone in to international success. They performed their own and also traditional material. Enya joined the band in 1980. In 1982 Enya left the band and created her first own song called The Celts for BBC-TV a document about celts. The most famous song Orinoco Flow (also known as Sail Away) was released in 1988 on the album Watermark. It became a hit in England and in the whole world. And the quantity of fans is getting bigger and bigger. The producer Nicky Ryan and his wife Roma Ryan hatched a plan to go it alone with Enya but her parents didn’t agree. Parents said her “It’s them or your family.” Enya chose Nicky and Roma. People like the sound of Enya’s songs. It has been called as “a sound without limit”. Because the sound is soft and ambient, some people think that Enya’s music can cure you from diseases, like cancer, help you to stop smoking or help the boredom of a traffic jam. After 9/11 people bought her records more than ever. Her present estimated worth is between £60 million and £100 million. despite that people like her critics still decry her work as tosh (=rubbish, nonsense). She lives in a castle called Manderly in Killiney. It costed £2.5 million. Enya is invariably described as “birldlike” or “school-marm-ish”, but in real life she is “shockingly, outrageously normal”. She thinks that she is more successful than famous. According to Nicky, Enya is “choir of one”. Enya uses layers. That’s why Enya doesn’t perform much. Most of her songs are heavily produced and they have many layers. It would be too difficult to create them in live setting. Enya sings in many languages. In English, Latin, Irish, Japanese, Spanish, French, Welsh and Loxian. Loxian is a language Roma Ryan has invented. Enya also uses the language which is created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
