Equal access and contribution to national economies are essential - TopicsExpress

Equal access and contribution to national economies are essential parts of democracy, but may be denied to many subsistence farmers in remote rural areas of Timor-Leste, who for various reasons, are unable to earn and spend money. Their transition to a cash economy can only happen when they are able to bring surplus crops to market and exchange them for money. If a farmer has no way of carrying crops, other than using his or her own body, then the journey may often take more time and effort, (and absence from work), than the cash return is worth, so the farmer is likely to stay in subsistence conditions indefinitely. The subsistence cycle can be broken by the use of pack animals, or simple load-carrying devices, such as handcarts and wheelbarrows, to carry goods further and faster with less effort. but they cost money, which the farmer hasnt got.My particular concern is how simple transport interventions can be introduced and distributed where needed in Timor-Leste. I would very much appreciate discussion on this matter, to see if practical solutions are possible. by Zinha .2014.
