Eric is in an online Developmental Psychology class and in one of the discussions about stages of psychosocial development this was shared... get ready for it... Gender roles also happen in the same way. When a little boy sees a man performing activities, such as constructing an object or lifting heavy items, the boy will interpret these as masculine and act and do them as well, because thats what males do. This is also the same for females. I can relate to this gender role example when I think of my little cousin. He grew up without a male father figure, except for my father. Whenever he would come visit, he would do exactly as my father would, be it changing the oil in a car or picking up heavy items. With this in mind, it is really easy to see how much a childs behavior is affected by those around them. Oh SHIT!! I must be a man because I lift heavy objects ALL.THE.TIME. Another person posted about how GREAT the maternity system was here for leave after the baby is born so that women can bond with the baby. She then went on to share that Americans dont go to bed hungry and that we dont have a poverty issue in this Country. *JAW DROP* OMG WTF I am OUTRAGED by this level of ignorance.
