Erik P. Steciak age, 29, of Columbia Erik P. Steciak, age 29, of Columbia, MD died suddenly in the line of duty, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Born November 6, 1985, in Seoul, Korea, he was the son of Orest Steciak and Jennifer Young Steciak of Columbia. Erik was a paid EMS employee who worked for the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a volunteer Fire Captain at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department. He was known for his selfless mentoring of many volunteers at both fire stations that he served. He received training through the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services Training and at Howard Community College; received training in EMS at Drexel University, Philadelphia and interned in the emergency and operating rooms at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia. He received his EMT Intermediate 99 Certification and Fire Service Instructor III Certification in 2010 and Paramedic, EMT Paramedic and ALS Authorization Letter certifications in 2011. Erik had also served in the AmeriCorps in St. Louis, MO in 2008, serving on the Emergency Response Team. He coordinated many volunteers during the severe floods while serving in St. Louis. He helped fight wildfires and monitor controlled burns. He performed conservation work for various governmental agencies. While serving in St. Louis he received a Certificate of Distinguished Service awarded by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. Being a dedicated volunteer at West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, he received many awards over the past several years,which included: EMS Person of the Year in 2006, one of the Top EMS Responders in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. He was also a Top Fire Responder in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2011, Erik received the Luke Hoffman Training Award as well as the Gift of Life Award. His additional awards included the Fire and Rescue Quality and Care Award, Top Combination Responder, Distinguished Service and Provider of the Year awards. Erik was also technologically savvy with computers and enjoyed music, playing in his band, Ride 56. Surviving in addition to his parents are twin brother and sister-in-law, Daniel P. Steciak and Abigail Pasinski of Belcamp, MD. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6 to 9 PM at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, 12535 Old Frederick Road, Sykesville and on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 1 to 5 PM at the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, 109 S. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 1 PM at Marriotts Ridge High School, 12100 Woodford Drive, Marriottsville, MD. Private interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in their Fallen Heroes section. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Erik P.
