Weve tried to pick ourselves up by our boot straps only to have our boots taken away. The race was started and we were still chained, now they say how come you people are so behind the rest of us. America adopted us but, have never truly embraced us. An adopted child knows when its not truly loved, a child will not flourish, but instead it will continue to grieve. No matter how hard that child tries to assimilate and be productive their efforts are stymied by the memory of the abuse. Especially when the abuse continues, but is masked or blatantly ignored.
