Eruptions Let us explore the faint rumbling In the belly of the earth The echo of fires subsiding The groan of crushing stone Placed between slabs Of cool granite and spit of flame Cracked stone still grumbling Above, the moon still stumbling Around the world In its unintended drag Upon blood of a vein We must toss up our lava To the minor and the main Flesh will tint sky Tallow of no vision Will smear every eye And we will warm the world With the cooking of the brain. Let us go down there To collect the last brace of boiled rain Let us become this dry ocean Of our driest hours Let loose raging geysers Of seas we cannot know. And when ore hardens When water no longer weeps Still, still, oh still let us flow.
