Essays in American Modernism. And to think that poor Herbert Hoover didnt think America did modern. Well, maybe he was right, since most of what we did came AFTER the Paris fair of 1925 (the Art Deco fair). Hot milk jug, Ilonka Karasz for Paye & Baker, silver electroplate and wood, ca. 1929. I remember buying this for the museum in 2000, thinking I was so clever. The Met had a set of this--but not the hot milk jug. Subsequently, someone gave them the hot milk jug. Sigh. Cream and sugar, Jean Theobald for Wilcox Silver Company, silver electroplate and Bakelite, ca. 1929. One usually thinks of the three-piece sets with the small coffeepot in the center--but Theobald also designed the cream and sugar set. Since I tend to want what other museums dont have, I snagged this back in 2000. - Ulysses Grant Dietz, Chief Curator
