Esther & Abi Ofarim – ‘Cinderella Rockefella’ (Single from 1968). Does anyone remember this piece of One Hit Wonder nostalgia from 1968? Esther and Abi Ofarim - and what appears to be a game attempt to jump aboard the Sonny and Cher image bandwagon… I remember it very well, as it topped the U.K singles chart, and my sisters loved this song. As a kid of around 10 I think I found it catchy and quirky: which was enough to gain my attention. But I was not into music at that stage in my life… Now I really don’t know if I like it as a piece of harmless musical oddity – or if I think it is simply a toe curlingly awful mish-mash of jazzy-kinda-brass-band(ish)-easy listening awfulness, with lyrics so cheesy they could top a pizza… This video, however, I AM decided about: suffice to say: ‘Excuse me while I make an appointment with a physiotherapist to have my toes uncurled…’ (Even if the lady Esther is very easy on the eye..!) Ah lighten up!, I think to myself. – It was just some light entertainment – and it certainly brings back a few memories..! Maybe some of you folks will think so too? I hope so..! (M).
