Ethiopian Abyssinian friends often find me absurd when I refer to Ethiopia as a country created by Abyssinian colonialism in 19c. In 1991, I was the most pleased when the TPLF regime re-defined Ethiopia as a multi-nation and multi-ethnic federal republic and adopted the current constitution in 1995 with its famous article 39, which gave nations and nationalities the right to self determination up to secession (ofcourse in reality this was never practised, as seen later, and was only used to consolidate TPLF authority, minimise Amhara domination and still continue to hold Ethiopia together by force mixed with top-down prescribed and remote-controlled self-rule, which is still better than the situation that had existed 1889-1991, but not good enough in as far as re-defining Ethiopia as a multi-nation-nationality-ethnic country drive is concerned).
