Etihad Airways has celebrated its 10th anniversary of flights from London Heathrow by landing three Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the roundabout at the approach to the airport’s Terminal 4. Of course, the aircraft are not lifesize and consist of 9.5 metre long models, each weighing 1.4 tonnes, with a wingspan of 10 metres. The airport was Etihad’s first destination outside of the Middle East and since 2004 more than 2 million passengers have flown between Heathrow and Abu Dhabi. “Heathrow is one of Etihad Airways’ most popular destinations and we’re delighted to use one of the most prominent and well-known locations at the airport to promote the Boeing 787 aircraft which we’ll take delivery of later this year,” said James Hogan, Etihad’s president and chief executive. Etihad is the largest airline customer for the Boeing 787, with 71 of the aircraft on order, and its eye-catching roundabout display and is projected to be seen by more than 6.6 million people every year.
