Etiquette, Manners, and Class. Been thinking about this lately and researching. I think I have failed as a Pastors wife to adequately teach these subjects like my Mom & Dad did. They were very strong and adamant with us girls about social graces, because without them your life is not as orderly or structured. Sis. Starr pretty much instructed all the young people and young couples in these areas. My Dad would sporadically tell me to straighten up and quit slumping, very unattractive. Walk around with books on your head to help you walk straight. Look someone in the eye when you are talking to them. No elbows on the table, hold your fork right, and dont eat with your mouth open. A church becomes socially chaotic when everyone does not share the same basic rules of behavior. Where do these come from? These should come from the Pastoral Team and the guidelines set up so that all the functions and events that happen in the life of a church, will have Etiquette, Manners, and Class. Wikipedia defines etiquette Etiquette is a code of behavior that influences expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group. Rules of etiquette are usually unwritten, but aspects of etiquette have been codified from time to time. Rules of etiquette encompass most aspects of social interaction in any society, though the term itself is not commonly used. A rule of etiquette may reflect an underlying ethical code, or it may reflect a persons fashion or status.
