Eurasia Cup Trophy Unveiled The trophy for the inaugural Eurasia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM was unveiled today by event officials at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club. Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, Chairman, Professional Golf of Malaysia, which is the local facilitator of the event, was joined by Datuk Mohamed Razeek Md Hussain, Chief Operating Officer of presenting partner DRB-HICOM and Charlie Tingey, Senior Director, Eurasia Golf, as they revealed the trophy to the media at the inaugural tournament’s host venue, where Team Asia will engage Team Europe in a match play contest from March 27-29. The specially commissioned trophy was produced in Malaysia and designed by Tun Ahmad Sarji himself with the help of Permodalan Nasional Berhad’s Mior Adlizul Jasmi, and crafted by master craftsman Hassan bin Mat Jusoh at the renowned silversmiths KB Permai Krafperak Kelantan Silver. Using traditional Malaysian techniques and working almost entirely by hand, it took four expert craftsmen over two months to fashion the trophy with the final sterling silver piece weighing over six kilograms and standing at 18 inches tall. The winner’s gold-plated medal and the runner-up’s silver-plated medal were also designed by Tun Ahmad Sarji with the help of Mior Adlizul. “The EurAsia Cup is a very important new event in the world of golf so we wanted to have a suitably impressive new trophy for the players to compete for. It was also very important for us to have something that shows off Malaysia’s wonderful craftsmanship and reflects the role Malaysia has played in the beginnings of the EurAsia Cup. I very much hope that come next Saturday, it is Team Asia that is being engraved on the trophy as inaugural winners,” said Tun Ahmad Sarji.
