Even a week after the #nomakeupselfies have (mostly, from my feed anyways) trailed off, I am still seeing statuses and comments about it being stupid to post selfies for makeupless beauty/natural beauty/true confidence. Etc etc etc. And that if it is not being posted for cancer awareness, the post-er is somehow doing it wrong. (Not to mention the very rude ones about attn seeking or some girls NEEDING makeup... not naming names here boys....) Dont get me wrong. I like the cancer awareness campaign idea (I will shut my mouth on the fundraiser bit- whether or not throwing the Big P money will find a cure isnt the point of this post). I have lost ppl to cancer and have watched ppl i care about suffer. I myself am dealing with it. This post is NOT saying anything against THAT campaign- so get off your horse plz) BUT- self confidence, self esteem and self acceptance/love are important matters to todays youth, and i dont just mean in the vanity sense- i mean in the sense that some people ACTUALLY judge themselves based on perceived societal expectations and get down on themselves for it, which can affect them in many negative ways. We know this, we hear about it, read about it, and may have even felt it. The push for awareness of the importance of feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin by campaigns, such as the one (adopted, adapted, continued on) by Just BeYOUtiful (ptbo org), IS important!! Dont see how? Well. Your makeupless selfie for cancer- didnt help my cervix. (again- kudos to you for raising awareness in your own way- especially the few i saw go above and beyond) BUT all these makeupless pictures (and yes- the positive feedbacks) reached the screens of ppl who suffers from low self esteem/feelings of inadequacy. And may have helped them see their own flaws as less of an issue. Think about THAT next time you judge the worth of a cause that may seem unimportant. Or post negative sh*t. (Still luv yas... hahaaa) *end rant* Thanks for listening ;)
