Even managed to wake up grumpy knowing I have an interview coming up. Ive been thinking of whats gone wrong in previous interviews. I think the main mistakes I made with communications roles interviews were. 1. Not doing a long unpaid internship at a newspaper. 2. Not realising most employers want someone who knows their field as well as they do, and dont interview for comms ability at all. 3. Not wearing make up and dropping two dress sizes. The reasons Ive actually noted are- 1. Male interviewer became chippy about my PhD. 2. Another male interviewer looked at my CV and said I was someone who could never settle on anything, was good at filling my time but had no achievements. 3. Female recruiter said I wouldnt be happy in the company because it was very glam. 4. Job vacancy ceased to exist. 5. I was asked to prepare a media strategy, so I focused on social media. People wanted an theologically minded academic with a focus on newspapers. 6. Not enough experience. 7. I didnt know enough about autism and the interview was 20 questions about autism. 8. I didnt use the key phrases when talking about team work, suggesting I needed to volunteer to get experience first. 9. I had no newspaper experience. 10. There were stronger candidates. I think I was too shy. 11. No reason given but I suspect it was lack of experience. 12. Everyone who works at that organisation fits a certain physical type and I dont.
