Even though a computer rigidly and mechanically follows the rules - TopicsExpress

Even though a computer rigidly and mechanically follows the rules of logic, it still may not yield a correct result. It might function entirely correctly using all of the rules of logic and still not yield a correct result. How can this be? The reason is that logic alone is not sufficient. There must also be input to the computer. It needs a starting point. If poor or defective information is fed into a computer, output from the computer will also be poor. It must have the correct starting point (bias) for its ‘thinking.’ As is well known in computer circles, the starting point or input for a computer affects its output. It is the basis from the often-repeated phrase, ‘Garbage in, garbage out.’ A computer’s output will be no more correct than its input even though it rigorously follows the rules of logic. The human mind behaves similarly. – The Puzzle of Ancient Man, Chittick, Page 216
