Even though her Mimi was moving away, Maureen was able to spend that 2012 summer traveling with her. Laura took Jackson and Maureen to South Dakota where they packed in quite a bit in those few days. As parents of siblings who sure loved to squabble, Jason and I were a bit concerned about them taking such a long trip with their grandma. Surely they would wear on her nerves. However, she came home with her sanity in tact, and the kids spoke excitedly about their trip. For Maureen, who never knew life as an only child, to travel with her brother was just perfect to her. Our daughter was able to see some amazing places in her life -- some that even I have yet to experience. And despite such awesome sites like Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, and monuments in D.C., she was still able to delight in such everyday common moments. May we all possess the gift of childlike wonder and vision.
