Even though the provincial budget tabled yesterday wont be implemented (yes, were back at the polls on June 12th!), it did contain some items relevant to our justice system. For example, the financial threshold to qualify for Legal Aid was to be increased, making it easier for more lower-income Canadians to access the system. A new on-line service for parents seeking to change child support amounts without the need to go to court was to be rolled out. Money was earmarked to build a new downtown Toronto courthouse that would replace five old existing court houses, saving taxpayer money and improving efficiencies. With luck, at least some of these ideas will still be implemented by whichever party wins the next election!
