Evening Everybody, The Ashgrove Super20 side started of in a winning fashion today with a solid all-round performance by the team. After winning the toss and batting first we managed to pile on 3 for 148 off our 20 overs. This was a solid effort considering we were in early trouble, but a 4th wicket partnership of 108 between Ian Garrad, Joe Stallard and Wides guided the team to a very defendable total. Ian made a steady 22* ably supporting Joe who top scored with 62*; Sundries was not far off with an impressive 48* (with 37 wides). The team knew if we didnt give as way as many extras and fielded better than the other team we would win this game; with keeper David Bowley taking a stupidly good catch off HC to leave them 1 for bugger all in the first over and set the standard in the field for the boys to follow. New recruit Oliver Civil took a few deliveries to warm up but once he did bowled really well in tandem with HC and at the end of 8 overs we had them 3 for 53. After being told to hurry up the over rate the skipper brought himself and Stallard on the speed things up; Stallard bowled very handily taking 2 for 20 in his 4 overs and though the captain bowled alright to start with, he ended up having a questionable day with the ball. This left Ian with 13 runs to defend off the last over, which sounds like plenty but their set batsman was still in, had just hit fifty and was looking set to pull off the heist of the century. Ian started the over well with a single and a wicket but on the 3rd ball decided to keep things interesting and bowled a no ball that got dispatched to the boundary. Now with only 6 runs needed off the last 4 deliveries things were looking a little bleak, however, Ian held his nerve and only went for three runs off these deliveries, meaning Ashgrove held on for what was the winning start to the season we needed. Player Points: 3 - Joe Stallard 2 - Ian Garrad 1- Mat Bryant The teams next game is in two weeks on the 9th of November at George Watt Oval, Indooroopilly. If any members would like to express an interest in playing just comment on this thread and we will make a note. Great effort today gents, Ralphy
