Evening all, So far I am assuming that meeting up on Mon, Wed - TopicsExpress

Evening all, So far I am assuming that meeting up on Mon, Wed evening and sat mornings has worked out okay for most people. We are hoping to return to the field in April when the brighter evenings reappear and make use of the facilities, allowing the body a much needed break from concrete and tarmac for a while. The 0-5k programme is back by popular demand. The first group will kick off an 8 week programme in April. This will be guided by mentors two days a week on a Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. It is open to total beginners male and female as before. People are expected to complete the full 8 weeks, however if you know of anyone interested, they are welcome to try one or two sessions before making the full commitment. People will not be able to join the group after the first week of an 8 wk programme. So if April isnt a good time to start then we are hoping that a second opportunity will be available in July based on interest and support of mentors. Joining fee for beginners and a contributory fee for all members of the group for the year is €30pp. If people choose a family membership which is €80, their fee is covered. If you have only one child in the club, you will have to pay an additional €30 as a separate fee, or you can decide to pay the full family membership of €80 if you have more than one child. There will be a few registration evenings to make payment before April. Most people I believe at this stage are heading for double digits- 10k or more! This is such an achievement for people who could just about jog one length of the field less than 10 months ago.Consistency and patience has paid off. We will aim for a few 5ks in teh summer for the novice Striders or ambitious runners who want to better their 5k time. We hope to have a few other events planned for throughout the year also. I know there are a few that have set their target as the Bohermeen 10k in early spring and Ive no doubt there are a few who could tackle the half marathon too. I think the Boyne 10k on the May bank holiday should be a big outing for the group this year. A perfect time to lap up the local support on home turf while supporting local athletics. There are a list of running events around leinster in the next few months. Erins run which takes place in Termonfeckin on February 14th is one which is well worth supporting. Details regarding the event can be found on FB or precision timing website. The Blues gala ball is also on the same night so a great opportunity to meet up afterwards. A few other things to mention, the Blues cycle is coming up at the end of April (Lynn kierans is polishing her nelly all week!) This is a chance to cross train. You can still combine it with a few days running in case youre partial to withdrawals! Details are on the forum and the Newtown Blues page. In April we will be looking for some volunteers to help us with the beginners and welcome them to the group. If people could even give one Wednesday or Saturday in the month or over the 8 weeks we would appreciate it. If youre available if you can comment here or inbox me I can then put a schedule in place so that we know all sessions are covered before April. With regards to your own training, we are always here to advise or put plans in place for people/smaller groups who want to improve, whether its over longer distance or time. We aim to encourage but not force anyone. Therefore when we regroup in April remain independent as you have been over the last few months, but know that we are there to help if needs be. Hope to catch up with you all soon Mags
