Event of the Year. This is one of those glorious makey-uppy - TopicsExpress

Event of the Year. This is one of those glorious makey-uppy categories that can mean anything. Previously, its been Roger Waters, Relay for Life and Operation Transformation. This year, a few things have stood out. The single biggest event of the year was the death of Dick Rockett, my father in law, and that has obviously cast a shadow over 2014. It was good that, six weeks after his death, we were able to remember and honour him at Relay. In May, I turned 50, and my party was a wonderful affair, thanks in no small way to Keith Fletcher, Pauric Gallagher, Andy McGranaghan, Tommy Daly and John Ruddy, who provided stellar entertainment. Pauline, Eimear and Kieran were obviously at the centre of everything. There was one beautiful moment a month later which really touched me at Verena Butlers 50th party. Way back in the late 80s, when Vee and Pauline shared a flat on The Quay in Waterford, we had regular music sessions led by Vees then fiancee Brendan. At Vees party, the rest of us sat back, while their three daughters Christina, Ciara and Brigitta sang and played. It was a lovely example of the wheel turning full circle. However, my event of the year is a monthly affair which started in April, and I was honoured on that night to be one of the performers. Ive appeared in various guises on several occasions since, and have seen some spectacular performances from various people, including a magnificent reading of a piece extolling the virtues of home baked bread by the inimitable Margaret Hannon. I speak of the brainchild of the nations new favourite poet Maximum Homosapien and his equally creative partner Taryn Gleeson, along with the great Michael Leddy. Together, they came up with that smorgasbord of culture that is......The The Revelry!
