Event organizers usually give thanks AFTER their events. Im going against the grain and will be giving gratitude in advance this year. Here is how the story starts...Today I have been reminded that SOMETIMES its good to work on other peoples creative projects for free. It turns out, very often those people will step in and help you when you need it most. My mother told me never to do things for people expecting a payback. It makes it so much sweeter when a favor is returned. Today I am thankful for my dear friend Luke Winslow King for hooking me up with something I really needed for Showdown. I am also grateful for all those involved with making The New Orleans Swing Dance Festival & The Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown possible. Sometimes I just want to throw in the towel. It takes a lot of work, A LOT of money, a lot of logistics, and a lot of concern for many peoples happiness to make something like this happen. Days like today lift me up in ways I cannot describe. Having people support the event because they love it and they believe in its power keeps me going. If youve ever worked for Showdown, volunteered, played music at it, created art for it, offered to move large objects or dance floors expecting nothing in return, or just simply bought a ticket to showdown, THANK YOU. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. We have an AMAZING group of people down here who come together to create the best swing dance weekend of your life with the best music you could ever ask for. And we have the BEST group of international attendees ever. Your support does not go unnoticed. There would be not Showdown without you! So, Thank you! That said, Im quite certain Lindy Showdown this year is going to be the best yet! Cant wait until you get here! lindyshowdown.net
