Ever go to the waiting room of an excellent doctor and hear the patients raving about how good the doc is and how much better they are doing since they came under his or her care? This is exactly how we find ourselves talking about Jesus, The Great Physician, when we come under his Lordship, how much better it is for us. “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:31-32) I come back to this passage often. It is a bit of a paradox. Our lives are much, much better when we live under the grace of Christ, and yet when we think of ourselves as well, we fall from grace. What was true for Paul is true also for us: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is perfected in weakness.” I shall therefore joyfully boast in my sufferings, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
