Ever noticed the look and feel of New Bedfords Historic District? - TopicsExpress

Ever noticed the look and feel of New Bedfords Historic District? As a living district, its an active place with new development mixed within historic areas that are being actively preserved. The goal is to balance modern development while ensuring the cultural landscape reflects what people would have seen during the whaling era. Just a few days ago, the Seamens Bethel underwent a dramatic feeling change as part of their summer spruce up effort to prepare the arrival of the Charles W. Morgan. Compare the April 4, 2014 picture to the circa 1870 picture and you can really get the sense of turning back the clock with the sparse, historically appropriate landscaping. The 2006 photo shows how landscaping really has an impact on the presence of the Seamens Bethel. Photo Credits:Circa 1870, New Bedford Whaling Museum collection, 2014 and 2006, NPS
