Ever since I was a scrawny little kid growing up in Carroll, OH, Ive dreamt of racing the mile competitively. I really cant say what it is that draws me to distance. Maybe it was the fact that my grandparents house then, was exactly one mile from ours. My dad, brother, and I used to run there nearly every summer night to swim in my grandparents pool. The last half mile was all uphill, and diving into the cool water after the run was very rewarding (especially in those days, because we didnt have AC, and summer days in central Ohio can measure up with the best of them in terms of hot and sticky-humid weather). Maybe its for the bragging rights of a great mile time, maybe just because its the American standard of distance, and I really love running. Whatever the reason, its something innate. I really cant explain it other than saying its been a life long dream of mine and I couldnt be more happy to say that Im training for the Mens Competitive Division at the Grand Blue Mile in Des Moines, Iowa.
