Ever thought about Studying Abroad? Free Advice if you are thinking of Studying abroad : For most application to the U.K, note the tuition fees are generally very high, if you are planning to go to a University not a mushroom college the be prepared to have a lot of money in your pocket. You can work whilst your study but it would be extremely difficult to pay your tuition and daily livings from your wages. If you are thinking of other Universities/Colleges in Western European, fees are also very high, cost of living is relative and but generally affordable if you have cheap/shared housing. The major barrier here is the Language, you might not be restricted from working but the language barrier would definitely affect you. Unless you learn the language, but i bet you by the time you understand 50% of this language, you are preparing for your graduation. Ok, lets talk about Eastern Europe and middle East ( by this i mean, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Romania, Czech, the ever popular Ukraine, Turkey, Cyprus, Russia e.t.c) ..Hmnnn, you would be surprised that most Nigerian are mostly found in these parts, funny enough the tuition fees are affordable but most the institutions lack accreditation thereby defeat the purpose of traveling to gain knowledge. What about US/Canada... Well, I know you want to hear about this countries but i tell you, most times what you hear about these countries are fluke.... the way they are advertised by money making tour agencies and their African School representatives makes you feel that you are going to school in paradise. These countries probably are most developed in our world today so why not school there? In as much as i agree they have great schools but the conditionality attached to it is grand. In US the schooling system never allows an international student work off-campus.. so you are stuck in that dilemma.... oh you are asking why your brother Chukwudi sends money home while studying? That is the African, Survival factor. After the 911 saga, a ban was placed on int. student to have social security nos, except you are employed in the US...For those of you that dont know what the SSN is, well what i can tell you is that without this No, you cannot have a drivers license, almost impossible to have a bank Account if not impossible, you can NEVER be employed, e.t.c, hmnn you probably started having doubts because you know a lot of people in the US, well that is why you probably dont hear from people when the travel to the US for a long time, until they try very hard to change there status, these they do by marrying a citizen or claim a refugee status.... In Canada, there is hope of working, once you are granted student visa you can work some students deffer their admission work to pay their bills, the working situation is far better than the US, you are also allwoed to work 2 years legally after your studies unlike one year in the US. Oh Canada seems like paradise !!!! The unfortunate news is getting the VISA ( I would talk about VISAs in next week edition) and the cost of their tuition as well... Many other African students seem to pursue their studies in the ends of the world, Australia and New-Zealand. As great as the countries are thy are also very expensive and extremely far away, apart from frightening tuition fees, the air fee could pay your tuition in eastern-institutions for your whole length of stay.... Well, i would be giving free advices on this platform for a long time, please feel free to comment, critique or add your views.. We are going on a very long journey, please dont be too quick to assume where this is heading to... long live Mama Africa!!!!!
