Every Christmas, for the past several years, Hoppin Elementary - TopicsExpress

Every Christmas, for the past several years, Hoppin Elementary Fifth Grade students have picked a community project to support. This year the students decided to support Toys for Tots. They spent two weeks selling candy canes at school profiting $524.00. The entire fifth grade team consisting of 46 students, six chaperons and two teachers traveled to Walmart with a budget and a plan. When they arrived, they were greeted by Walmart employees who presented them with an additional $100.00 to spend. Students shopped with their chaperons, picking out toys to donate. While shopping, a Hershey Chocolate representative decided to support their project by presenting the 5th graders with an additional $100.00 cash on the spot! After spending their budget, 5th graders took their purchases to lane 19, a lane designated just for them. Walmart provided cookies, punch, and a mini stocking for each student to enjoy after their shopping trip. Students, teachers, and parents were all blessed by the experience and support from our community in helping with this project! The toys were dropped off at the Lions Club to be distributed through the Toys for Tots program.
