Every Halloween while I was a child I could expect to be questioned by the same old lady (everybody is old when you are very young, arent they?) about the Closs family. She would go on about having a (great?) grandfather Closs who had gone off to the Civil war and not come back, or something like that... You know how youngsters like to listen to stories when all they want is more candy... Anyway, I kind of wish that I had paid attention now! I do know that there are Closs headstones in one of the Rossie cemeteries and that my Gr, gr, gr grandfather (John Closs) went off to the Civil War with either a brother or cousin named William Closs who didnt return. It would be interesting to find out who that one person in Hammond, that I was probably related to was.
