Every Labor Day, we mark the unofficial end of summer, the beginning of the school year, and a last chance at a three-day weekend before fall. But the true purpose of the holiday is to honor the hard work and sacrifices made by the men and women who help to build our economy and contribute to our success and continued vitality. Our region of Pennsylvania is known across the country for its strong work ethic, and the belief that any job worth doing is worth doing well. These are qualities that have driven us since before the founding of this nation, and proved instrumental during the Industrial Revolution, when the United States became a world leader in production and prosperity. Today they are character strengths that prepare us for the challenges of an evolving economy. On this Labor Day, I salute the hard working men and women who make our communities strong, and continue to lead the United States in the 21st Century.
