Every October brings with it for me, a need for coherent self reflection and a desire for continuous personal growth. With each passing year and the older I get there is an old saying that seems to resonate with me more and more, today truly is the first day of the rest of my life. Now that I am in my early forties its safe to say that considering myself middle aged is a fairly accurate perception. I also feel comfortable proclaiming that I am certain that the second half of my life will be far more enjoyable and meaningful then the first half was. I have learned many lessons throughout the years that could have never been absorbed without being coupled with sorrow and pain. I have finally been shown the importance of surrounding yourself with Kind, Loving and Compassionate friends that continue to contribute to our emotional and spiritual growth. I have learnt that living your life in the proverbial fast lane gives very few opportunities to actually enjoy those little moments, that when you look back you realize were actually some of the most important moments of your life. And I have also been taught that life truly is what you make of it and once that lesson is learned it becomes much easier to create a better life for yourself and make your word a Happier place. We all wish we knew then, what we know now but wisdom does not come as easily as knowledge does. We must know sadness before we could ever truly appreciate the feeling of extreme Happiness. Growing older should never be something that brings on feelings of sadness or depression, instead we should look upon it as being given a great opportunity to have had one more year to be the very best version of you possible.
