Every day, we spend a lot of time negotiating even though we are quite unaware that we are doing so. Since much of it happens informally, we may not even realize that any negotiation has taken place. Good negotiation skills are an asset because it is often the final stages in the journey of persuasion, taking people along with you from point A to the destination of Point B and all these cannot come into play without empathetic listening, questioning, choice of words and non-verbal behavior in order to reach an agreement. In both our business and private lives, we will often have continuing relationships with some of the people that we negotiate with the ultimate aim that promotes mutual benefit, in other words, a situation where both parties win where a deal or situation satisfies both sides and is done in a spirit of trust and honesty. However, it does not mean that you need to sacrifice your own goals and you have to be concerned about the other party getting what they want. That is for them to do. Your job is to satisfy your interests. The other party is responsible for doing the same for themselves. The ultimate aim can be summarized in one word – AGREEMENT. Have A Great Day Ahead!
