Every now and again you have a moment as a coach that reminds me why I love to coach these kids. Tonight I was witness to two of those moments that usually only happen once or twice a season with the 4th and 3rd grade baseball teams. Both games ended in walk off hits for the win. Its not just that which is pretty awesome, but how it played itself out. Down 2-1 our lead off batter hit his first home run of the season. My son legged out a single to first just in time and his buddy Kyle hit him all the way home for the win. In the third grade game we gave up 4 runs in the last inning to tie it up 6-6. The kids could have easily hung their heads and gave up. One of the kids that had struggled all year at the plate hit a single to advance the runner to second. The next kid who also had struggled at the plate this season hit a single between first and second and the runner made it all the way home. The kids went wild and I had a grin from ear to ear followed up with some kind of bug in my eye or something... :-) I hope the kids tell this story as much as I will. No better feeling as a coach when the kids you know want it so bad get it done when it counts.
