Every now and then I wish my heart was hard. This world doesnt always appreciate a soft heart. Having a soft heart means being vulnerable. You give a lot, you love a lot, you care a lot - and theres no guarantee that the same will be returned. Sometimes I wish I wasnt so selfless. Then after a solid couple hours of self-pity and pessimism, Ill come to my senses. Sure, I could be selfish. I could use people to get what I want, then toss them aside when I no longer need them. But what good would that do? I could get by for a while, but eventually Id look around and see that Ive pushed everyone away. My life would be self-centered and miserable. Theres a joy that comes with loving selflessly. Same is true with that expect nothing, appreciate everything attitude. Its amazing how much better life is when you take the focus off of me, me, me. Ill keep my soft heart, thank you very much. Not everyone is going to appreciate it, but I cant let that keep me from sharing it with those who will. To someone who only knows hard hearts, a simple act of love and kindness could make a huge impact. Our world desperately needs soft, selfless hearts. Wont you offer yours?
