Every once in a while the siren call of the red light at Krispy Kreme calls to me. And though I love their donuts when theyre piping hot, they dont live up to the memories I have of the giant maple bars I used to get at The Golden Donut on Main Street in Cottage Grove. Im sure my memory is being kind and its mixed with the fondness I remember going in there on Saturday mornings with Dad. Something about the smack of the sugary sweetness that hit you when you walked in the door and made your way to the back counter where the donuts were displayed. One of the gifts of a small town childhood.
