Every process of expression can be a way to the internal and eternal . The mantra , the sur , the line, the dervish circling is not to numb the mind, but to take it beyond the ritual . Yoga or intense engagement with a sport or exercise is similar. As is cooking or craft. The mind, body, heart, soul, spirit coming together in a limitless involvement is meditation. Not just for silence, to go beyond silence , wait again and again for ecstasy . That is why all mystic poetry is about the lover waiting , the lover leaves and you are in viraha and you have to do everything to try for a milan again. He is considered as the only minimalist artist in Pakistan because of his linear drawings. He is teaching at National College of Arts and works at his studio in Lahore. Talpur aims to create “art without content” in order to return to the original craft of drawing. In this spirit, he started producing a series of works characterized by clusters of lines made of ink, pencil or acrylic on paper. The artist found inspiration for these works in observing birds flying from the rooftop of his studio. Looking at them in motion, he traced their path in the sky with a felt tip pen on paper over and over again, almost obsessively in a meditative trance. Ramakrishna describes his first spiritual ecstasy at the age of six: while walking along the paddy fields, a flock of white cranes flying against a backdrop of dark thunder clouds caught his vision. He reportedly became so absorbed by this scene that he lost outward consciousness and experienced indescribable joy in that state. The smarter ones among us have the rare ability to laugh at themselves. They know how ridiculous it is to take anything seriously, especially themselves. Talpur is too evolved as an artist to transcend in a blatantly obvious way. He is creating space for his own version of the divine. He would like you believe in the meditative healing that symmetry promises. The repetition is meant to calm you, but when you know you are going in circles, the joke’s on you. And his understanding of the form emerges when he laughs with you, because he made you a part of his secret. You are sharing an inside joke with a friend. Calligraphy is a subtle method, which I use to scratch my body and soul. It is neither a political nor social comment but an investigation of Islamic philosophical and sacred art.
