Every single day MOST of our open admission animal shelters - TopicsExpress

Every single day MOST of our open admission animal shelters struggle to place all the adoptable animals. They work with local partners, market on Facebook, and try to get lost animals back to their families. Despite this never ending battle we use terms like kill shelter or say they are killing animals as if it has not impact on them. This needs to stop. Nash County Animal Friends and Nash County Animal Shelter strive to get ALL adoptable animals placed but as the post states below, there are only so many kennels. This is the reality of our open admission shelters, a reality that the animal welfare community in NC is working to change. The hard work is beginning to pay off. In 2013 many of our NC animal shelters had a significant decrease in their euthanasia rate. Rural shelters like Caldwell, Catawba, Chowan, Cleveland, Wilson, Duplin, Montgomery, McDowell, Madison, Lincoln, Scotland, Rutherford, and Wilkes are partnering up with local and national rescues to save lives. All of these shelters had notable decreases in euthanasia rates. Lets keep working together...change is happening. Extreme language and behavior does not create sustainable community programs, partners do.
